once the phase of survey and analysis of the technical / cultural peculiarities of the site was completed, we moved on to the planning phase through the drafting of a masterplan as a promotional tool. this is a strategic planning tool that implements territorial development programs and precedes territorial and urban planning, assuming the temporal dimension of the necessary actions within it, aimed at defining a vision of the future of a territory. the masterplan that aims above all to enhance and maintain the main structures of the area, such as the sala tracciati and the rotating cranes, a sign of the greatness and industriousness of the tosi construction sites. added to this is the desire to preserve all the natural environment with the creation of large urban parks. central to the whole masterplan is the creation of a pole on the sea and the sea with the aim of reviving the city towards new cultural and economic goals. the pole must be attractive and functional for the city of taranto, in order to do this the commitment is to connect it with all the infrastructural systems present, from the new nasisi station, to the ring road and also by sea with the creation of a port for the docking of small boats, with the aim of not affecting the marine habitat in front of the tosi shipyards. there are various new structures and functions within the polo, from the museum of the sea to the nautical fair, from the research center to the sports facility with the aquatics center.




the taranto aquatics center is located in the area that during the activities of cantieri tosi was destined for the naval warehouses. the project foresees the construction of a swimming stadium with a capacity of around 3,000 seats, suitable for hosting the 20th edition of the mediterranean games of 2025. the entire sports facility is caved inside a green podium, which will host public spaces and services for the community and the athletes, such as heating pools, gyms and rest areas. the old assembly ramp will be used for the creation of an elevated aquatic course, suitable for rafting and kayaking competitions. the project also envisages the creation of the mediterranean food hall, a space built by recovering one of the rooms of the old warehouses, suitable for hosting events and fairs related to mediterranean cuisine as well as taranto’s food and wine excellence.



the tams – taranto museum of the sea aims to redevelop the building from an architectural and social point of view, defined as the traces room inside the former tosi building sites, a public asset so far unused, and to return it to the city with an identity and a new public function of participation and sharing of spaces. the project has the aim and the objective of creating a museum of the sea with the peculiarity of organizing different levels of complexity and functional interaction. the project idea wants to enhance the existing structure with a new and modern covering that is “grafted” into the building like a big wave. inside there is a large auditorium and exhibition spaces on the theme of the sea of ​​taranto. these are developed on several levels and along the entire length of the building with an architectural and structural dynamism that evokes the constructive art of the metallic carpentry of the submarines and the hulls of the large ships designed and planned precisely in this place.




the building rises above a rectangular lot following its morphology and overlooking the first breast of the small sea of taranto.
it consists of three main architectural elements: the enclosure, the tower and the inner court.
the first assumes the function of medical center and research, the second is a residential structure that consists of housing and apartments, the third assumes the function of public space. the structure is strongly characterized by the presence of large coverage that modelize in a plastic way the buildings below: it marks the altimetric variations that ripples like a large sheet of paper and defining a series of cusps in a range between a height of 6 mt to the 100 mt of the residential tower. the prospects resume the typical forms of industrial sheds creating simple geometries where the cover shows, with a strong and visible sign the evolution of the buildings, the passages and the accesses.
the choice of materials wants to accentuate the difference between the covering, covered with a traditional and massive material such as stone, and the facades of the buildings below composed of a structure in glass and steel panels.

sea fair

the sea fair project involves the construction of a central gallery, which contains several regular glass and steel pavilions, paths and services. the interior is developed over several levels: in order to facilitate the exhibition the ground floor is free from any type of support, while the first and second floors are suspended and attached by thin steel pillars. the last level is characterized by green side areas whose central axis leads to a staircase, characterized by a glass box that acts as a greenhouse. the internal pavilions display new technologies, navigation techniques, functional and electronic components for new boats. the gallery, 400 meters long and 40 wide, has a roof with a triangular module that alternates steel and glass; near the main paths the module is interrupted to create openings towards the outside. it is a connection between the green designed in the air in front of the coast and the eleven pavilions, made with the interlocking of wooden panels, integrated in the wooded area. inside they contain services such as conference rooms, refreshment and exhibition areas. in order to facilitate the loading and unloading of goods, the project foresees the re-use of the existing building, the former warehouse, recovering the previous function.





the waterfront redevelopment project foresees the construction of a series of squares on the water that are connected by identifying green spaces and shaded areas. the docks, undisputed the guiders of the area, characterize the profile of the coast and take on the functions of relaxation areas with a linear trend as well as a port area, destined to dock small and medium boats. the harbor, on the other hand, becomes a setting for the insertion of a monolithic architecture that, by breaking the surface of the water and falling below sea level, forms a direct view on a landscape of flora and fauna appropriately increased. finally, an essential role is played by the large naval cranes present on site, for which a process of recovery and total re-functionalization has been planned. one of these, in fact, has been fitted as an aquatic park through the introduction of trampolines and slides on different heights and a suspended glass pool located at a height of about 40 meters. another, however, embodies the emblem of the genius loci as it depicts the nature that the site regains through the creation of a real vertical forest. the three cranes with folding arm awning, treated in the same way and connected by a panoramic cableway, support a spherical geodesic structure, made of steel and glass, which holds an observatory inside.




green PARKING AND TRAINING facilities

in the area in front of the cantieri tosi, the project foresees the mending of parco del fiume galeso with the parco della rimembranza through the planting of native species and the design of a satin green parking area, equipped with spaces for parking electric cars and motorcycles, isolated from the pedestrian boulevard through a building. the building presents itself as a large wooden lamellar roof covered with polycarbonate panels, with a series of small pavilions housing various functions. in addition to the parking area at ground level, two underground levels are planned to accommodate other parking spaces as well as the tram station that connects the entrance of the former cantieri tosi area with the nearby nasisi station.

the project of the future structure, in line with the p.u.m.s., will facilitate the exchanges between road and rail of the taranto section and will connect the city of taranto with the multifunctional pole of cantieri tosi.
the shape of the building follows two main directions, in other words the existing railway line and the old track that used to connect the old station with the construction sites; particular characteristic of this station is the walkable roof which, taking advantage of an elevation of 25 meters, will allow a worthy view towards mar piccolo and the city, as well as the surrounding natural area. the new station will be equipped with a new high-speed inter-regional line and will allow, in addition to relieving the traffic of the city center, to also make more efficient the connection with the paolo vi district and the nearby airport of grottaglie. moreover, reusing the old track that connected nasisi to the former cantieri tosi, it will be possible to access the existing cantieri tosi area through a low environmental impact route.
there will also be eco-sustainable transport services that make it possible to reach the new station and also the surrounding natural areas.
